Hamilton Ventilator: A portfolio of three products was created to satisfy intra hospital (C1), emergency transport (T1) and MRI usage (M1) in which these highly portable respiratory ventilators provide vital, life-saving support in a rugged, ergonomically refined, intuitive, and affordable package in order to better serve both caregivers and patients.
Ravi Sawhney, a Canadian born designer of Indian descent, was raised in Los Angeles, California where he attended CSU Northridge and Art Center College of Design. Today he leads RKS in Southern California, a firm he started in 1980 after leaving Xerox where he was the lead designer on the first generation of touch screen interfaces. He remarkably alternates between roles as CEO, entrepreneur, lecturer, author, designer and, most importantly, as an advocate of design’s ability to help others and make the world a better place.
As the founder and CEO of RKS Design, Ravi Sawhney has spent more than thirty-five years at the forefront of product and technology innovation and has grown his industrial design consultancy into a global leader in the fields of strategy, innovation and design.
Ravi is a regular columnist/blogger for Fast Company, as well as a popular corporate and academic lecturer. He is also founder and initial jury chair of IDSA’s Catalyst Case Study™ program, imbued with showcasing design’s power for positive change. While leading RKS, Ravi invented the Psycho-Aesthetics® design methodology, which Harvard Business School adopted as a case study before it became the central focus of Predictable Magic — a book authored by Ravi and co-authored by Deepa Prahalad, published by Wharton School Publishing in August 2010. Ravi was inducted into the IDSA academy of fellows in 2009 and holds a Ph.D. (hon.) from the Academy of Art University.

GameVice: The long wait for true, console level gaming on a tablet is over. The Gamevice is the world’s first tablet specific controller, which allows seasoned gamers to easily translate the console gaming experience anywhere with its familiar D-pad configuration.
KOR: The KOR ONE Hydration Vessel is a reusable water bottle that emphasizes the beauty of hydration by offering simple, one-handed operation and providing the look and feel of glass without being as fragile. The innovative cap, mouthpiece, handle, and other user touch points clearly distinguished KOR ONE from competitors and quickly captured the attention of consumers, media, and celebrities. Today KOR Water is a leading provider of reusable water bottles in the global market place.
FloWater: The FloWater refill station is the water cooler reimagined. On top of providing an intuitive user experience and compelling visual design, FloWater enhances the drinking experience by sending water through seven stages of filtration, enhancement and refrigeration (including a sediment filter, carbon filter, reverse osmosis, a coconut filter, activated oxygen, ultra-violet light and mineral enhancement) delivering incredible tasting and refreshing water.
RKS Guitars: The RKS Guitar was the first guitar to use sustainable woods and wood based Polymer, making it the most significant advance in sustainability for electric instruments of its time. Gracing the cover of Business week, its design introduces innovation to the 7 standard electric guitar allowing it to feel familiar, yet different with its understated design, unbelievable build quality, improved ergonomics, reduced weight and neutral balance.
Amplifi: AMPLIFI is the guitar amp reinvented. AMPLIFi required a design language that both empowers and allows the opportunity to create music without the worry of storage or disruption of space. Designed to be accessible at any moment and require minimal setup, AMPLFI has a recessed interface to allow for easy storage and purposely lacks the line 6 badge (which usually indicates guitar amp) to allow it to blend in offices, dens, living rooms and more for instant gratification without complication.
Zyliss: The RKS team created a global design language and a portfolio of more than 30 products that emphasized not just functionality, but true pleasure in the handling, use, display and even washing of the kitchen tools that was able to improve profitability for Zyliss and help the company to strengthen its brand worldwide.
Nuance: The Nuance™, a superior nanoresin composite delivery system, features an improved extrusion syringe that delivers a superior material, provides easy, efficient operation, instant indication of remaining material, and enhances any office with a professional, carefully branded aesthetic.
FreshRealm: FreshRealm revolutionizes the current distribution of food through its innovative cloud technology and packaging; lowering costs, adding convenience and reducing the time to it takes to reach the consumer. FreshRealm delivers food two days after it’s made directly to people’s homes and places of work in a reusable vessel that keeps food cold at 40◦ F for 40 hours without any electricity or consumables increasing the amount of food that is available by 75%.
