Designed from the inside out, the Target+Red Cross case organizes all emergency articles based on importance and needs. The first aid kit is attached to the outside, while flashlights, FM radio, blankets, gloves and picture books are placed in the main compartment.
Klaus Rosburg is the founder and principal of SONIC Design, a New York based design studio specializing in the development of consumer products, medical instruments and structural packaging.
Educated in Germany, Klaus studied Industrial Design at the Muthesius Academy for the Art in Kiel graduating with highest distinction. While he was at top design firms in Germany and the United States, he gained extensive experiences in all aspect of the design process, including design research, trend forecasting, human factors, CAD, rapid prototyping, computer-generated images and animation. Nominated for the National Design Award in 2007 he has received the most prestigious design awards worldwide, most notably IF, Red Dot, the Industrial Design Excellence Award and Design of the Decade 2010 – Gold Award.
His spectrum of commercial work ranges from high-tech super computer and jet interior to toothbrushes and pill dispenser. Klaus Rosburg’s work has been published in The New York Times, I.D. Magazine, Axis, MD, Form, Interior Design, and Metropolis, to name few.
Klaus Rosburg has also been on the panel of judges for the International CES Innovations Design and the SPARK Awards. Most currently he has accepted a part-time teaching position at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
How do you invent and engineer a child-resistant closure, which is at the same time easy to open for the elderly users, who often suffer from arthritis? Pharmacy Package for Target. IDSA Design of the Decade 2010 and Packaging of the Year 2005.

Bister Radio. Made from PLA, a biodegradable, thermoplastic, aliphatic polyester derived from renewable resources, the clear blister displays intuitively all rudimental components of a traditional radio. With the package becoming a product, the blister has a life beyond the retail shelf.
Vertical is a wall clock for the modern and contemporary home. The hour numbers are laser-cut into an anodized Aluminum frame floating above the clock fingers. The clock face is made of back painted acrylic creating additional color depth and a premium look.
ChargeIt Spot. A public charging station allowing consumers to recharge smart phones for free at retail locations near them. The station has 7 lockable bays with the ability to charge a variety of mobile phones in each bay via iPhone, Micro and Mini-USB adapters. The unit incorporates a touch screen keypad to lock and unlock the charging bays. In addition it has a camera to record customer’s use and misconduct and an audio interface to potentially provide additional assistance to handicapped or visually impaired users.
Working closely with the Microsoft hardware group, SONIC developed a clear-fold package that featured the mouse sideways highlighting the innovative folding mechanism.

ECO Soap Dispenser. The design is based on the idea that consumers keep the pump mechanism and replace only the product cartridge reducing the environmental impact.
