A self-defined creative realist, Philip Leung has a passion for making things beautiful yet functional and intuitive. After studying Industrial Design at Northumbria University, Philip joined Altitude, eventually leading the Industrial Design Group, where he got to hone his left and right brain sensibilities. Feeling the lure of digital and seeing the opportunity to further expand his passion for design thinking and human-centered design, Philip moved into the field of user interface and user experience design. He now lends his critical thinking and creative eye in leading Altitude’s UX group.
You could describe Philip as a consumer of all things tech, a tea addict, fiend for his wife’s homemade kimbap, and co-art director for all of his son’s embarrassing photo sessions at home.
Stem is hardware, software, and service. It is an app, a cloud application, and a set of “smart caps” that live on top of your liquor bottles. This smart connected product makes cocktail experiences at home accessible and fun for anyone. When the caps are paired with ingredients, Stem knows what’s in your bar. Armed with this knowledge and access to a community-powered library of recipes, it helps people find new drinks or even plan a menu for a gathering.
When you are ready to mix, Stem’s app and LED-powered caps seamlessly guide you through the steps and intelligently meter out accurate quantities of the right ingredients so your cocktails come out perfectly each time.

WIMM’s clear and compelling vision resonated with potential partners. Altitude built on this strong foundation with a series of customer-specific pitch decks and presentations. The result? WIMM gained traction with customers early on, receiving positive attention at the 2012 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, and winning the 2011 Under Armor Innovation challenge.
Altitude helped WIMM develop the tools necessary to test potential applications. Leveraging their experience in the medical, industrial, consumer electronics, and consumer appliance categories, Altitude explored potential use scenarios and value propositions in target areas, and also conducted technology and competitive assessments.
Conceptual designs and user stories brought target market opportunities to life, becoming a key part of WIMM’s presentation materials in sales calls.
