For more than 25 years, Todd Ellis has been involved in product creation. From early in his career as a designer, to today as a business leader, he has orchestrated various technical and business disciplines, in the execution and delivery of unique products and programs.
Graduating with a BSID from the University of Wisconsin Stout, in the 1980s, Todd began his career at Cannondale in Georgetown, Connecticut–the first high volume manufacturer of aluminum bicycle frames and cycling accessories. To build his experience, he later worked as an Industrial Designer/Product Development Contractor with various Connecticut design and engineering consultancies. Participating in avionics, healthcare, consumer electronics, housewares, toys, and packaging programs, Todd developed a broad understanding of design and product development. Working on projects for Converse, now a division of Nike, led to his first design experience in athletic footwear.
After discovering his affinity for footwear, Todd joined Puma, as a Footwear Designer. During this period, the major athletic brands were focused on creating new “footwear technologies.” As a result, he participated in the technical design of what are now iconic Puma footwear styles and technologies. Like the Puma Disc System®, Puma Trinomic®, PUMA CELL®, and Puma Duo-Flex®.
With an ongoing interest to elevate athlete performance by improving the products they use, Todd joined Reebok in the mid 1990’s. Starting as a Senior Designer, in the Advanced Products and Processes Group, he later developed skills as a Team Leader, Design Director, and finally as Managing Director of the Group. Todd and his colleagues received multiple Patents for their evolutionary and revolutionary footwear technology and manufacturing work, including, Reebok® THE pump™, Reebok® DMX MAX™ and DMX Plus™, and Reebok® 3D Ultralite Foam™ technologies.
After a successful decade with Reebok, Todd returned to Puma. As International Group Head of Footwear Design, he was responsible to build and maintain a global team of 25 footwear designers located on three continents. With 1700+ SKUs annually, these talented teams designed soccer, motorsport, sailing, running, track & field, training, heritage, and children’s footwear styles.
Later, Todd moved into an advanced leadership role at Puma as Head of Strategy & Operations for the Innovation & Sustainability Team. Performing biomechanical research to identify problems and using advanced materials and manufacturing science as solutions, this R&D Team focuses on footwear and apparel product solutions that address athlete performance needs. The team evolves existing technologies and creates new technology franchises including: Puma Ignite® Foam, Puma EvoPower®, Puma Mobium®, and Puma ACTV/RCVR 1.0®
Today, as a Director of Engineering, Todd uses his innovative approaches at Jabil, based in St. Petersburg, Florida. Jabil is an $18 billion, diversified global manufacturing services company, with more than 90 facilities in 23 countries. Serving small, medium, and Fortune 500 companies with design, engineering, and manufacturing services, Jabil is an execution and supply chain delivery leader.
